Caroline was christened on 2nd
June 1869, the daughter of William and Agnes Gomersall. She
was said to have been very clever and to have gained a scholarship
to Newnham College Cambridge, but was unable to take up due
to lack of money. She taught Sunday School in Skipton and was
very musical. Around 1896 William, Agnes and Carrie moved out
of HillHouse in Otterburn when the farm was bought by ... Haggas,
who still farm in Otterburn today. They moved to 1, Brookland
Terrace, Skipton.
After William Gomersall's death in 1900, Agnes and Carrie went
to live in Eccles where John Ellis by now had a successful butchers
shop and not far from Hubert in Urmston. However at some stage
Carrie married .... Maxfield who had a bicycle shop in Skipton
and they subsequently moved to Burton - in - Lonsdale where
they ran the post office and a bicycle shop. They had two children,
Agnes Margaret amd Helen.
